File Description

originally an imperial colonization and terraforming project, tortuga was lost during an warpstorm and abandoned - until hyram krieger, a well known pirate in the empires vast galaxies, found the colonization equipment while fleeing an imperial battleship. he hid, only to found an outpost and hideout for all his fellow outlaws that soon attracted more and more pursuited individuals throughout the empire. soon the place was buzzing with life - until the empire found out what happened to their colonization outpost. they dispatched an imperial battleforce to kill the 'heretics' and bring krieger back alive to get judged by his righteousness himself. everybody would have considered this an easy mission, but with their back to the wall the inhabitants of tortuga valley killed nearly 2 regiments of the attacking force before they were exterminated with biological weapons that killed nearly the whole vegetation as well. today tortuga valley is deserted, inhabited only by the few that still treat it as a symbol for the resistance against the law and the government. only the still worknig waterpump is still witness to the origins of tortuga valley...

'tortuga valley' is a 512x512 4pl multiplayer-map.
i wanted to create a map for my lan-games that forced the players to rethink their usual strategies - i think i did it. the critical point in the center of the map is unaccessible with normal troops, since the last one to leave the valley destroyed the ramp that led to the pumpstation. same with the relics, which means the players will need more teleport/assault-troops and not just the usual mass of troops to win the game in 'take and hold'. lots of elevated points ensure that you need a good mixture of assault and ranged combat units, open spaces make vehicle battles easier to manouver... the starting position of pl4 is a bit more hidden, to balance this i put his first strategic points farther away.

the map plays best in take and hold with normal starting resources, theres plenty of strategic points to ensure a fluid battle (must be at about 36). every other mission works as well, but annihilation could be a bit easy. skirmish will work with every mission except 'take and hold', even on insane the enemy seems to be unable to take the critical point.

if you find bugs, or got critics that i have to read, send me a mail to stefan.michalits@phase13.com.
