Fist, I know very little about the TT version of Warhammer 40k. I have some friends that have played it for years, and spend hundreds of $ per year on the minitures. Myself, I played it once and did not really enjoy it (For PnP/Dice games, I prefer more role playing), the PC version is a different story. Relic has taken a shot at the elusive RTS bullseye, and came away with an almost perfect score. Thank you Relic for making such a great game, one that all other RTS games will have to be judged against. I have been modding games for a few years now, and when I find a game I like I just have to bend it to my will...Can't help it, it's in my blood...Hehehehehe So, when I started modding DoW I did like most others and made large, cheap forces that walked all over the opposition. But, let's face it...That can get boring...So, I came up with a design that gave a better challenge to the game play. The UDF is designed for smaller, but stronger, unit sizes (The caps have been DECREASED, not increased!!).
**Universal Defense Force** ********************* This contains NO new Units, Races, Models, Sounds...ie: "Nothing New Here"...This just changes the way Space Marines are played ******************************* Mod for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War by Ko-Gar (If you wish to contact me, please do so by PM at the Relic Forums--- http://forums.relicnews.com/index.php? ) Version: 2,666 (BETA) *** .rar file only!! *** I do not use Winzip, or any other type of compression, so please do not ask me to put this in a .zip. You can DL the free WinRar trial version here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm...Get the 3.40 version (Top one) ============================================================================ Installation: Drag and drop the "Data" folder into C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War\W40k, if you have the game installed to the default directory. If you already have files in your 40k Data folder then remove, or rename, the folder, else the files will be overwritten. That is all you need to do for this Mod. If you wish to use the UDF Badge and Banner, simply drop the .tga files from the .rar into their respective folders inside your Dawn of War folder. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THE ENCLOSED .teamcoulor FILE. This Mod affects all Space Marines. I just added the team file because it is the color scheme I use. I lovingly refer to them as the "Neon Snowmen"...:) You will find a camera_high.lua in the archieve if you wish to use it. What this will do is increase the hieght and zoom abilities of the camera, plus increase your view distance. To install this, simply drop it into your **C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War\Engine\Data** folder, dats all...:) ***Important*** The Badge and Banner were made by Hangar-8. I have included his original files in this .rar for those who wish to use them without the UDF lettering. I found these excellent pieces while I was trying to create my own Badge and Banner, and I could not have asked for a more perfect likeness to what I had imagined. Thank You Hanger-8 for the great work, keep it up...:) ============================================================================ Background: Fist, I know very little about the TT version of Warhammer 40k. The UDF is designed for smaller, but stronger, unit sizes (The caps have been DECREASED, not increased!!). Specifics: CAPS: Squad - 16 Support- 15 Marine Squad: Start with: 2 (25 req each). This has both an advantage (faster fielding), and disadvantage (Well...Only 2!) Reinforcements: 5 (75 req each) Sergeant: 1 (100 req) No prerequisite Weapons: Primary weapon- Plasma Gun. Upgrades: 4 (Heavy Bolter, Missle Launcher Only) Other Changes: More Armor, Slower moving. Scouts: Start With: 2 (Req unchanged) Reinforcements: 1 (Req unchanged) Weapons: Primary- Plasma Gun. Upgrades: 2 (Sniper Rifle Only [Slightly faster fire rate]) Other Changes: Less HP, faster moving, increased site. Can take Strategic sites faster than any other unit...They just can't hold it for long...:) Servitors: Very fast unit, but very weak. FC-Lib-Apoth: More Armor, cost more, slower moving. Terminators: Start With: 2 Reinforcements: 4 Weapon Upgrades: 4 Other Changes: More Armor, Slower moving, cost more. **NO ASSAULT TERMIES** Support Vehicles: Dreadnaught (3 Slots), Whirlwind (2 Slots), Predator (5 Slots) **ONLY** Buildings: Most all buildings have higher Armor, and HP values. Turrets: Now VERY tough (as they should be IMHO), cost a LOT more, and you are limited to only 30 (You can run out quick on large maps) Plus a few other changes that I did not write down, and have forgotten about...D'OH!! Anyhow, this is a small Mod for those who wish a little more challenge to their game play. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do...Thank you...Ko-Gar *************** PS: A Big special thanks to Corsix, Spooky, and Eber Kain. Without their tools I, and many other modders, could not have even begun to mod this game!! ************************* PPS: As none of this is my proprietary work if someone wishes to mirror, distribute, or modify this Mod, please feel free to do so...Just please remember modders courtesy, and give credit where credit is due..Thank you.
