Xbitlabs.com has an article up that is testing CPUs to see which CPUs can provide the best game play in Doom3, They have discovered some interesting things.They have come up with some suppressing results in the timedemo tests, and have found that the older Athlon XP Processors don’t even compare to the newer Athlon 64, and Pentium 4 Processors when it comes to holding a good Frame Rate. In tests with the Athlon XP Family they have found that at times the FPS dropped below the comfortable level of 30 FPS even with the latest video cards. Also as if it wasn’t obvious beforehand, the Pentium 4’s cannot compete with the topmost members of the AMD Athlon 64 family of CPUs. Even the most expensive Pentium 4 XE CPUs fall short of the Athlon 64 CPUs. In the Timedemo tests they have also found that the best CPU for doom 3 appears to be the Athlon 64 FX-53 with a Operating Frequency of 2.4 ghz.
