File Description

Stranded is a rather large and very open map, which despite having an atmosphere similar to the Arctic (cue the mountains with all the snow), consists of a large grassy garden area with a few buildings in it. The buildings are mainly large cubes, and most you cannot go inside of (you're mostly fighting on their roofs). You can enter one of the longer buildings where you need to climb up to the second level in order to get around a large wall that's blocking your way. This takes you to another room with a large picture in it that serves as a transporter. This takes you to yet another maze-like room where you again walk around seeing many Star Trek pictures hanging on the walls (not to miss the catchy tunes in the background ;)) and again some of these pictures serve as transporters to take you back to the main garden area. The garden is pretty plain and has a bunch of trees occupying space. This is also where you'll find almost all the weapons and ammo (they're all rather spread out too so you'll spend quite a bit of time walking from corner to corner to get some good weapons).

For CCD's first map, it's not too bad. There's definitely a lot to improve on. Textures for one could have been chosen and used better, currently there is a lot of tiling and lo-res textures that don't provide much detail. Use brushwork to bring some more 3D detail to the outside (and inside) of the buildings (perhaps things like supports, pipes, etc). The trees in the garden are placed rather unnaturally and thus aren't very effective in bringing any sort of garden/forest feel. Terrain variation would have been nice (nothing too complex is really needed, just something to break up the flat layout). Lighting was a little bland as well, think about actual light sources rather than placing light entities everywhere to light a map (Where is the light coming from? There must be some kind of light fixture).

As an FFA map it doesn't work too well, atleast not competitively. The outside of the map has potential, but the insides of the buildings are way to linear to have any use gameplay wise.

The story:

They're dead....all dead. I saw them die,and I couldn't..I couldn't....
Captain Kirk and Mister Spock, they were holding them off by engineering...
and they were gone .....phasers wouldn't stop them.. nothing would....

(Sometime later)
This is Ensign Kevin O'Reilly, USS Enterprise. I am recording this on board the shuttle Copernicus.
We had been patroling the neutral zone, 3 days from the end of our tour. The communications system had gone down
2 days earlier and Mr Scott had us working double shifts trying to find the problem. We tore it down and rebuilt it twice, but no joy.

The command staff had just come out of a three hour meeting when the Captain came on over the intercom.
He announced that it had been determined by Mr Spock and the science staff that the fault was not with our sytem, that there was no
activity in subspace for our reciever to pick up. It was as if all subspace communication had simply ceased. Furthermore, the Romulan
bird of prey that had been shadowing us from the other side of the zone had vanished. It had been decided that we would head back into federation space,
and try to make contact with another starship. Failing that, we would head back to Earth at all deliberate speed.

I stopped in the mess for a cup of tea before turning in. Nurse Chapel and Yeoman Rand were at the next table, I couldn't help
but hear their conversation. Mr Spock had collapsed on the bridge and been taken to sickbay. Before he regained full consciousness,
Chapel had heard him talking, something about " they are gone...". He told Chapel that he had "heard" the crew othe Romulan ship
right before they dissapeared. He had sensed surprise, then anger, and finally an all encompassing horror, and then they were gone.

I was off shift and sleeping in my quarters when the red alert sounded. Followed in rapid succession by the intruder alert.
When I got to engineering, Mr Scott filled me in. A "planet killer", identical to the one that had killed Commodore Decker and his crew, had
materialized a thousand meters of off our starbard bow. Immediatly after, our shields had been penatrated by some type of transporter beam
and we had multiple hostiles on board. Just then, the Captain burst in, followed by Mr Spock. They were firing back into the corridor, untill
 Mr Scott sealed the entrance.

As he stepped away, the doors exploded inward, I didn't see Mr Scott again. Three cowled figures entered, we fired our phasers, to no effect.
The Captain ordered us to set phasers to kill, still no effect. The intruders were speaking, all at once. Something about "the body" "not of
the body" One was directly in front of the Captain, and kept asking about... Mary?....No...Miri..yes, thats it. "Where is Miri?"
He,it, was holding some kind of device, looked like a wand, or baton. He placed it against the Captains chest...and the Captain imploded.
The Captain was gone! Mr Spock lunged towards the creature and it did the same too him. It turned towards me, still asking about "Miri", the baton came up....

I woke up here, aboard the shuttle. Sensors show we are in Earth orbit. Sensors show no air, no life, no indications of buildings, no sign that there ever was life here.
I've checked the astrogation readings three times, there is no doubt, this is Earth. Still no subspace activity, nothing on am fm, vhf, uhf. Sensors pick up no signs of
warp drive usage, either. As far as I know, I am the only person, the only lifeform..

(later)
Sesors have detected something. It appears to be a force field of some kind. It is failing, sensors detect a Class M atmosphere, possibly some buildings. I am going to
attempt to beam in.

MY name is Ensign Kevin O'Reilly, of the USS Enterprise. There must be some reason behind all of this. If anyone finds this, follow me down to the planet.

O'Reilly out.
