So you really think you are the fastest?

TT_strafes_beta1 is the very first EF map that is designed specifically for strafing. Its concept comes from the popular maps used in the Defrag mod in Quake 3. Seeing how much of a benefit those maps have been to the defrag, and general Q3 community, they figured it was about time to introduce the EF community to this genre of maps. This map is about putting yourself to the limit, and learning new techniques of strafing. The demos included in this .zip file describe several strafing techniques that most people could never imagine.

There are a total of 10 rooms, each with their own level. The last 'course' features a racing lane. A few people can hold a contest to see who is the fastest.

So you really think you are the fastest? Time to prove it :)
Or, how to outrun enemy defenders.
Or, how to overtake enemy flag carriers.

Installation - Make sure you read the complete readme.txt, especially the
section "IMPORTANT".
- Unzip the zip file to your "<stvef>/baseef/" folder.
Select the map from the menu or open the console and type
/map TT_strafes_beta1
- To view the demos, place the demo files in your
"<stvef>/baseef/demos" folder (if you unzip the .zip file, it
should place the demos in the correct folder by itself).
If this folder does not yet exist make it :P
We recommend using EFREC to view, and record your own demos.
The names of the demos included are:
01_WATCH_ME_FIRST!!!
02_CircleJump_Tutorial
03_Strafing_Tutorial
04_StrafeStyles_Normal
05_StrafeStyles_Two-Beat
06_StrafeStyles_Half-Beat
07_StrafeStyles_Inverted
08_StrafeStyles_Backwards
09_StrafeStyles_Sideways
10_StrafeStyles_Weird
11_blue_from_end_platform
12_blue2_from_2nd_pad
13_lanes_red2_overjump_from_first_pad
14_cycled
15_pads_white2_backwards
16_white2_backwards
17_lanes_white2_with_a_360
EF can only show a restricted amount of demos in the menu, so
in order to watch them all, you need to either move the demos you
already saw to another folder, or play the demos by using the command
/demo 01_WATCH_ME_FIRST!!!
to watch the first demo, etc.
TIP: If the messages in the demo go too fast, you can hit ~ to drop
the console, so you can see the messages for a longer time.
With the console open, you can scroll up and down with the PgUp
and PgDn keys (located above the arrow keys).
- The EFREC software can be downloaded here:
http://efxleague.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=52#dl
- Here are some useful commands to add to your autoexec.cfg that will
allow you to fast forward, slow down, etc while watching the demo:

// Demo watch
//
// Keypad-7: normal speed
// Keypad-8: double speed
// Keypad-4: slow motion
// Keypad-5: freeze demo
// Keypad-6: fast forward
//
bind KP_HOME "vstr normal"
bind KP_UPARROW "vstr ff"
bind KP_LEFTARROW "vstr sl"
bind KP_5 "vstr demopause"
bind KP_RIGHTARROW "vstr ff+"
//
set demopause "cl_freezedemo 1"
set slow "cl_freezedemo 0;timescale ..5;echo Slow"
set normal "cl_freezedemo 0;timescale 1;echo Normal"
set ff "cl_freezedemo 0;timescale 2;echo Fast Forward"
set ff+ "cl_freezedemo 0;timescale 10;echo Hi-Speed Fast Forward"

Description - TT_strafes_beta1 is the very first EF map that is designed specifically
for strafing. Its concept comes from the popular maps used in the
Defrag mod in Quake 3. Seeing how much of a benefit those maps
have been to the defrag, and general Q3 community, we figured it
was about time to introduce the EF community to this genre of maps.

Strafing Tutorials - As we're sure some of you are aware, there are many different strafing
techniques. We have included demos of all these strafing techniques
being done, so you know what its supposed to look like.
- For online reference, check this link:
http://www.trickingq3.com/Tutorials/Strafing_Tutorial.html

Purpose - To test and improve your strafing abilities. We have added several
features that allow for this:

1) Pads - There are a total of 8 sections: blue, green, red, yellow, orange,
purple, black, white, with 2 lanes in each colour. The order of
difficulty increases from left to right. The further you go, the
harder it gets.
Remember though, to do the lanes properly, you start off with a
CircleJump (which is discussed below). You are not supposed to
run up to the pads then jump because thats cheating. Why don't
you start a 100m dash from 10m back?

2) Racing lanes - This here is pretty self explanitory. You press the button on
the wall, and you listen for the countdown, the door goes up, and
you take off like a bat out of hell, trying to beat your opponent.
In order to decide who is fastest, the players get killed in the
end of the lane: the one who dies first, wins the race.

3) Circle Jumping - We have included a section known as the CJ (Circle Jump). This
is the part of the map that tests your initial jump in your
strafing technique. The first jump is very important in strafing,
especially when you are attempting the harder strafing lanes.
Included in the winzip is a demo called CircleJump which clearly
describes and shows you the proper technique for a CJ.

4) Free Style Room - You'll have to wait for our next release :P

5) ????            - U have never seen anything like this before :)

Comment: - We recommend to watch all demos included, and it might help to
play the demo back in slow motion. In order to do this, type
/timescale 0.3
in the console before you watch a demo (the demo will be played
at 30% of normal speed).
To get the demos to play back at normal speed again, type
/timescale 1
in the console.

IMPORTANT:
- The map is designed with normal USA settings in mind:
g_gravity 800
g_speed 275
(These are normal USA server settings)
- If you are playing this map offline (you created a server yourself), make sure you have
this setting:
g_synchronousclients "1"
- If you are playing the map online (joined a server), make sure the setting is:
g_synchronousclients "0"
otherwise you will "lag".
- Due to a "bug" in the Quake3 engine code, the best strafe results are met while using:
com_maxfps "125"
We designed the map in such a way, that any of the current graphic cards should be able
to get a constant 125 fps. If you are having trouble keeping a steady 125 fps, try lowering
some of the graphic settings.
- Completing these pads and the CJ can be a little challenging and frustrating at first. The EF
community is not used to a map that you can only complete by strafing. So plz, dont freak out
after just a few attempts, and take a calm and collective approach to the map. Practice makes
perfect. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
- We recommend asking any questions you have, or generally anything about the map, to be posted
in these forums http://www.efxleague.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=8
This is also your ultimate resource for everything related to EF.

Interesting Info:

Reason for the name - well, the TT is the initials of our names :P and all our maps will be
released with TT_*****. The strafes part is because that is the whole reason for this map, but
you are probably wondering why there is the _beta1 in the name. It is because this genre of
maps are never "final" and there is always stuff to be added and taken out.

- Everything in the map is possible.
- Titanium has never completed black1, because that is his special thing in the map :P

btw... we didn't think people would read the readme.txt this far down... :P gj :)
