File Description

Polus Redone is a remake of the single planet's land map Polus. This is a way better, higher quality remake. The author looks like he put a lot of work into the detail and the layout. This map changes the Polus map by adding a lot more things, including Pyn'Gani Warriors. The readme also includes instructions for making the Pyn'Gani "penguin warriors" that waddle when they walk!

The Main Changes in This Map Are:

  • There are now a few more prop Pyn'gani houses.
  • There are now Pyn'gani houses that spawn Pyn'gani.
  • There are now two abandoned mining facilities (since Polus is, in fact, a carbonite mining planet).
  • There is now an abandoned sensor array as well.
  • The island off in the top right that was always unreachable is now reachable, but you must fly to it, or have a unit that can go over both water and steep terrain.
  • Returned a few of the 'good ground' areas that were removed in FOC, and added one or two new bunkers.

To read more detail, look in the readme This remake isn't the best map you will ever download, but with its detail, game play, and other improvements, it maximizes the game experience.

This is a remake of a single planet's land map - Polus, but I believe that it is a very high quality remake, and hope you enjoy since I put a lot of in depth work into this map.

There are no pictures, but I felt that they'd be unnecessary and wouldn't give you enough insight into the changes anyway. Alternatively, if you're desperate, these PotDs were taken on this map:

A while back I uploaded a semi-sloppy map pack and xml pack.

I've been meaning to make updates to all of those planets and codings, but haven't finished many of them yet, but this is one of the ones I did finish.

In EAW, Polus had the white-faction-colored hostile Pyn'gani with their carbonite guns.
In FOC, however, the map did not have the Pyn'gani present.

In my version, I kept the good from the FOC version, added a few things here and there that made sense, and re-instated the Pyn'gani (as purple hostile faction units).

This remake is hardly over-the-top or the greatest thing you'll ever download, but I believe it is a sincere improvement over a single level, since, unlike my first upload, I put quality above quantity so that anyone who uses this could have a maximized experience during land battles on Polus.

Setup:
Simply drag the map into wherever you keep your maps. If it asks you to replace a map, then it means whatever mod you're using already has a modified Polus land map, so beware you may screw something up if you replace it (probably not though).

If you are interested, this is what you need to turn the Pyn'gani into penguins, if you wish to do so:

Go into the xml file named "Groundindigenous.xml".
Press "Ctrl" and "F".
Type in "Pyn" and press enter.
Type in "alo" and press enter.
Replace the line "<Land_Model_Name> NI_GMale_Snow.ALO </Land_Model_Name>" with "<Land_Model_Name> Ni_pengauani.alo </Land_Model_Name>".
Save and exit. Do whatever else you may need to do to make the changes stay, that part really depends on what mod you're using, etc. Hopefully, you know what to do/can figure that out on your own.

Possible glitches:

- The bunker to the left of the first drop zone may or may not have problems since it is so close to the edge of the map. While I have never had problems myself, please inform me if anyone else does. Thanks.

- The Pyn'Gani might be allied with the Zann Consortium. Hopefully not, since I've undone this a good number of times, but yeah.

By the way, the bird is the word.
