Splash Harbor

sp_splash_harbor_bv1.0.zip

Description

"Crisis!!!" We got one right here at "Splash Harbor"!

This is a single player action map worked on by Murph. Yes, once again, Jack Carver finds himself in the service of the C.I.A. Black Ops Division involved in a Hostage Rescue along with a little Search and Destroy action! This map also includes "The Pig Mod" a script-mod for the game character "Pig". I built this mod so when this character is set-up in human form he can defend himself if he is attacked as opposed to dying instantly.The "pig" animal really won't be affected by this alteration, as well as anything else for that matter, so no need to worry about that. = "Splash Harbor" by Murph Includes =

* New Load-up splash screen.

* Two Hang-Gliders to use.

* Three Flying-Fox situations.

* Mission Scripting.

* "The Pig Mod". * Some Voice-Overs.

* Quick Launch Short Cuts.

* Altered Trailer and Screen Test.

* Two original acoustic recordings "Barracks Boogie" and "Skootin Time".

"Splash Harbor" level build was my first attempt at mapping. I started working on this map project around 3-6-07 and after sporatic building attempts, it sat shelved and was largely forgotten about for close to a year! Finally, this single player action map will see the light of day, just blow the dust off before use!

 Story Line:

*************************************************************

"Crisis!!!" We got one right here at "Splash Harbor," a small island in the south Pacific which was under Japanese control during WII. Kreiger Corp. has been agressively re-building the island and it has not gone unnoticed... Once again, Jack Carver,like it or not, finds himself in the service of the C.I.A. Black Ops Division. The Black Ops Division is very much interested in acquiring Kreigers science and technology breakthroughs for their own means.

Valerie was sent in undercover to aid Kreigers lead scientist, "The Professor" defect, but both were captured in the attempt! C.I.A. Operative Roger Riker will set you up initially. Intelligence comes from Tom Jenkins, a maintenance man and informant who is based on the island. He knows the island well and will aid you in locating the hostages in exchange for safe haven and freedom. Besides the oppurtunity to rescue your girlfriend, the C.I.A. would like you to continue with a little "Search and Destroy" mission. They have made the generous offer of
replacing your blown up yacht with a new one in exchange for your services!

Hmmmmmm... Decisions, Decisions...Jack barely escaped with his life the last time, but this is an offer he just can not refuse!

 Installation:

*************************************************************

 There are 2 options for installing "Splash Harbor".

..1. Install as a mod! or 2. Install as a map level!

 Installation option 1: Run "Splash Harbor" as a mod.
-----------------------------------------------------

.1. Unzip "sp_splash_harbor_bv1.0" to a folder of your choice!

.2. Cut or Copy and paste the "Splash_Harbor" folder into your "FarCry Mods" folder!

....example: G:Program FilesUbisoftCrytekFar CryModsSpash_Harbor

.3. You can now either load up the "FarCry" game and go to your Mods Menu to choose "Splash_Harbor" or you can use one of the game short-cuts I have supplied with-in the "Splash_Harbor" folder to start the game as well!

.4. However you start the game ... Enjoy!

NOTE 1: "Blue Button" short-cuts are set-up for a G: drive install! Need Altering?

The "Splash Harbor Blue Button" short-cuts I have supplied can be placed on your desktop or where ever you like. They are actually dressed up short-cuts to the .bat files included in the "Splash_Harbor" folder that will also start the game as well! You can choose the level of difficulty you would like to play "Splash_Harbor" at by looking at the "Blue Buttons" titles or the bat. file titles as well!.. Please keep in mind that these "Blue Button" short-cuts correlate to where I installed my "FarCry" game, which was my G: drive!... Where's your game at?

Depending on which drive you installed your game will determine if you will have to re-assign them or not with your mouse by "right-clicking" on them to show the
"properties" tab. Now "left-click" the "properties" tab and you will see 2 "pathways" listed as "Target" and also "Start-in". Make sure that these 2 "pathways" correlate to the drive letter where your game resides. If they dont, change the first letter in each "pathways" box from G: to say C: if that is the drive your "FarCry" game is on and then press "save"! Now the "Blue Button" short
-cuts will be in sync to start-up "Splash_Harbor" from the correct drive. Very easy to do if so inclined!

NOTE 2: VERY IMPORTANT!

It is VERY IMPORTANT to pick-up ALL your Supplies in the very beginning of the game aboard the second fishing boat. Not only will you need them, they also set up most of the game events. Picking up other supplies as you come across them early on is also recommended, but less of an issue as the game progresses. Dont worry about stock piling health and ammo as there is enough to be found as you push forward. I included quite a few "Save" spots, in fact there are 16 of them, so you wont have to back-track too much if killed.

.Installation option 2: Run as a map level & install "Scripts.Pak" file.
--------------------------------------------------

.1. Unzip "sp_splash_harbor_bv1.0" to a folder of your choice!

.2. Extract "Splash_Harbor" folder to the "Levels" folder in the Farcry directory.

.3. Cut or Copy and paste the "Scripts.Pak" file from "Splash_Harbor FCData" folder
    to your "Farcry FCData" game folder, in place of the original "Scripts.Pak" file.

                                 : NOTE :

You can move your orirginal "Scripts.Pak" file to another folder for safe keeping.
My "Scripts.Pak" file only alters how the "Pig" character operates in human form
with a weapon and won't affect anything else... The "FarCry" game uses the "Pig"
character as an unarmed "oink oink" animal. The pig animal won't be picking up any
machineguns or throwing granades, just mud! You can leave my "Scripts.Pak" file or
re-install your original "Scripts.Pak" file as well after playing "Splash_Harbor".

.4. After loading up "FarCry", Open the command line console in the main menu.

.5. Type: map splash_harbor

.6. Hit Enter and game map should load up with "Splash Harbor" splash screen.

.7. Enjoy!

.NOTE 2: VERY IMPORTANT!

It is VERY IMPORTANT to pick-up ALL your Supplies in the very beginning of the game aboard the second fishing boat. Not only will you need them, they also set up most of the game events. : General Info :

*************************************************************

"Crisis!!!" We got one right here at "Splash Harbor"! This is a single player action map worked on by Murph. The original unfinished version of this land map was offered up to the the public in October of 2006 by Capt_Amerika with the intentions of being a "stunt map". It can be found with-in "Designer Map Packwork #4" and is labeled as "Splash". For my build I went "single-player mission" with this being my first attempt at mapping out a game.

Land, base texture layers and vegetation were already implemented, as well as some structures and vehicles. I altered the landscape by adding hills and a canal out to the ocean. I added or deleted vehicles as well as structure were I saw fit. I added two hang-gliders to use and 3 flying-fox situations. The load-up splash screen, additional buildings, building interiors, AI/NPCs, script-mod on "Pig" character, mission scripting, voice-overs and two very brief, but original, acoustic guitar recordings were added/done by me. The guitar recordings were recorded in my basement through my head-phone mic, so they will only sound so good. They are titled as
"Barracks Boogie" and "Skootin Time". I did not like the standard tribal music used as Merc radio enjoyment and found it hard to believe a bunch of redneck Mercs liked it as well. I think my two recordings are a little more fitting and also adds a personal touch as well.

The island is basically laid out in a big circle or loop and the mission works in a counter-clock wise rotation once you hit the island. A folder labeled "Arial ReCon Photos" has a few secret mission pics of the islands layout and postioning of its buildings. Sticking to the script is easy enough and will provide for the most enjoyment... Unless you dont care about the script, please try to fight the urge to fly all over the map as sequenced events will be muddled and some of the Mercs wont even reveal themselves. However, if your in a particular area and you happen to notice something of interest a short distance away by all means, investigate. You never know what you may find. Once you have completed the mission, you can always go back again to explore stuff around the island.

I included quite a few "Save" spots, in fact there are 16 of them, so you wont have to back-track too much if killed and if you know how, you could use *"Quick-Save" in most of the areas: Please keep in mind Crytek/FarCry does not support the use
of *"Quick-Save" as it has been known to cause its own problems or issues...However, I did not encounter any trouble using *"Quick-Save" and used it when ever "LAG" became unruly later on in the game. As a mattr of fact, I do suggest setting up "Quick-Save" F9 and "Quick-Load" F11 for use in this map! Using them quickly one after the other does eliminate any "LAG" spots for quite a while and is well worth the 5 second reload wait!

The first part of the mission has you in rescue mode with the help of your contact Tom Jenkins. He is a character I built from modding the "Pig" script to defend himself if he is attacked. He is supposed to aid you by taking out a guard and locating the hostages. The idea here is to get your two hostages and informant safely "to" Agent Rikers fishing boat behind the "Boat House". Even though the idea is to have them all get into the fishing boat, sometimes one of them wont.
That is alright, as they all dont have to physically get into the boat in order to move on with the game. Just have them as close to the boarding ramp as possible before picking up the night vision googles in the boat and leave them behind with Agent Riker.

If for any reason, one of your 4 allies dies or gets killed...you die as well...so make sure to keep em alive! Once you drop off your allies push onward with the second part of your mission which is basic "Search, Gather and Destroy". There are 31 objectives to complete. This may sound like a lot, but some are satisfied rather quickly while others should keep you a bit more busy.

As I said "Splash Harbor" level build was my first attempt at mapping. I started working on this map project around 3-6-07 and after sporatic building attempts, it sat shelved and largely forgotten about for close to a year! Please remember this is a BETA offering and except for the "LAG" hot spots, I'm happy with the results. Most buildings are simple in design but serve their purpose. Maybe down the road the
"LAG" hot spots can be corrected and I would like to add some cut-scenes! Upgrades like much better voice-overs would be cool as well, but this will have to do for now. Maybe a savy modder could step forward and take some action here to add these upgrades, as I would appreciate the help as my time has become limited and I do not
know when I'll get time to supply these upgrades! If used, you would receive full credit in the next version of "Splash Harbor" for the talented contributions made by you!

This map is the result of the combined work and effort of =Murph= and Capt_Amerika. I think the plot is entertaining and the action is timely as well challenging... should be fun to play!

                                   Hope you find it to be enjoyable! =Murph=

*************************************************************

 Known Bugs or Issues:

*************************************************************

.1. "Lag Harbor"

Lag on this map, at times, is a pain and I had to delete things in order to avoid it. There are still some areas that lag a bit, but I got tired of deleting things I built in order to be lag free. Who wants to run around a bare map? The first half of the map is basically lag free, but the second half has 3-4 lag zones.Hmmm, maybe just too much stuff on a little map I dont know! Better machines will plow through most lag, but for lesser systems, if lag is a pain, reload map from a "Save" or *"Quick Save". This seems to help quite a bit in freeing up a lag bound area. By pressing *"Quick Save" F9 and then "Quick Re-Load" F11 takes about 5 seconds and frees up any lag for quite a while!

.TIP: When you start to feel lag, hit F9 "Quick Save" and then F11 for a "Quick Re-Load".

."Quick Save": Is a seperate mod. Read above General Info as to use of *"Quick Save".

( F.Y.I.- Adding these commands to your "game.cfg" file will accomplish same goal. )

    Input:BindCommandToKey("save_game 000","F9",1);
    Input:BindCommandToKey("load_game 000","F11",1);

.2. There was, as usual, plenty of bugs. All major bugs found so far have been corrected. Most minor bugs have also been corrected. The worst thing to happen was a crash to desktop after doing a combination of things, all at once, in a certain area and and particular sequence. I fixed this "bugged" area by simply deleting it completely... Goodbye "crash!"

I have BETA tested as best I can, but obviously have not played every scenario or angle that can be played. If you find a bug area like the one above, change up your attack tactics a little bit or just avoid that exact spot while in battle and e-mail me on the bug or any other bug problem you may find.

.NOTE:

Anyone who would like to continue work on this map, including cut-scenes, "LAG" elimination or better voice-overs is surely welcomed by me to do so! Helping to make this a better offering to the "Far Cry" community would be appreciated by me, as my time has become limited and I do not know when I will get time to supply these upgrades!... If your contributions are used in the next release of "Splash Harbor" you would receive full credit of course in the "Splash Harbor Readme" for the talented additions made by you!... Thankyou!
