Battlegrounds is a new game which is being created in collaboration with a modder known as PLAYERUNKNOWN, best known for creating the "Battle Royale" series of mods for Arma 3 and H1Z1 - but is this new, Unreal Engine 4 based game, any good?
The game, known by it's full title of "Playerunknown's Battlegrounds", takes the Battle Royale concept and brings it into it's own, fully-fledged, game. The new game will be able to place up to 64 players at a time on a remote island, to take part in the winner-takes-all battle, which promises to put as much emphasis on strategy and planning, as much as will on shooting down other players.
As players try to locate weapons, vehicles and supplies, the game slowly forces you into a shrinking safe area of play, as the battle mode escalates into a tense and, usually, spectacular fight.
Without being confined to the engine of another game, Battlegrounds promises to take PLAYERUNKNOWN's concept and free it from those restrictions, hopefully making for a much smoother, and enjoyable, experience. The game is currently in an open alpha, and while it's too early to comment on how good the finished product will be, as it stands, the game is at least playable and the game mechanics are already in place.
If you've played Battle Royale on either Arma 3 or H1Z1, you're going to find this a same familiar experience, but with it's own, dedicated game engine, and while the game still has bugs and issues, the amount of work so far is impressive for just five months of development.
