There's a new expansion coming to Binding of Issac, the popular dungeon-exploring-action-em-up, and among the addition of new enemies, items, bosses and fixes, modding tools are being added, too. In addition, the best mods will make it into the base game.
The announcement was made today by Edmund McMillen, the creator of the game, on his official blog page. Once the new tools are released, and the community begin to upload content to Steam Workshop, he will be adding the best ones into the base game on a monthly basis. Some of the methods that will be used to determine which mods make it into the base game will include community voting on Reddit and Twitter.
But why add mods into the base game, when you can easily grab them from Steam Workshop anyway? McMillen explain;
[I] feel like ive [sic] personally scraped the barrel when it comes to item design and feel quite depleted, but im [sic] positive that there are a ton of cool ideas out there that are so left field that they MUST be added to the main game. so once this thing releases, its time to prove your worth!
The new update, Afterbirth +, is currently expected for release within the next 60 days, according to McMillen, with final beta testing and locking down of achievements being the current stage in the development. It's expected that the game will release right around the holidays, possibly on Christmas Day or New Years Eve.
