The release date for World of Warcraft expansions is always subject to a lot of guesswork, speculation, and sometimes even voodoo. However, none of that usually results in the correct date.
There were plenty of retail listings that had popped up recently listing January 2011 launch dates, leaving people to speculate that the expansion would miss this year after all. It appears that those dates were incorrect, as Blizzard has just confirmed the launch of Cataclysm for December 7, 2010. Apparently, it’s ready.
Speaking about the upcoming expansion, Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime said,
Cataclysm includes the best content we’ve ever created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out.
With the help of our beta testers, we’re putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months.
That means that you’re only about two months away from a level cap increase (to 85), the chance to play as a goblin or a worgen, a new battleground, and the complete upheaval of the Azeroth we all knew. This also means that you need to get your collector’s edition ordered now. Anyone excited?
