I have to admit that Doom 64 was one of my favourites in the franchise, little known, it maintained the darker, grittier soundtrack and feel that the PS1 port of Doom did. It's appropriate then that this Doom II engine re-creation is being released just in time for Halloween.
Brutal Doom 64 is a re-creation of the original Nintendo 64 title within the Doom II engine - however - those familiar with previous entries in the Brutal Doom series know that it's not as simple as just a direct port - expect added gore, extra blood, and serious scariness.
The mod will feature all 32 levels from the original N64 game, as well as all the original enemies - in addition to enemies that were cut from the original game, including Chaingunguy, Revenant and Mastermind. There's also going to be an online survival multiplayer mode available, hosted on servers arranged by the mod author.
As you can see, there's a lot of enhancement work to the graphics and effects over the original game, including new lighting, sounds, animation and effects.
The mod is compatible with GZDoom and Zandronum, and will be released on October 30th. You can keep an eye on the official ModDB page for further information.
