Posted on June 20, 2011, Mark Burnham Cliffy B Confirms: Silverback Mech Suit is “in one [Gears of War 3] multiplayer map”
I think mech suits are a good thing for video games, and possibly society in general. We could use more of them.
If you paid attention to any of the Gears of War 3 news from E3, you’d no doubt have noticed the Silverback. It’s a kick-ass mech suit in the single-player campaign, and it’s also a touted “Fortification” in Horde mode.
But that’s apparently not all, and this is the part that seems to bother some people, which baffles me. Cliff Bleszinksi confirmed that the Silverback will be in regular competitive multiplayer in Gears of War 3, in just one map. This tidbit came out during an interview I attended at E3. Here’s how he explained it.
Q: Will the Silverbacks be in multiplayer maps?
“Cliff Bleszinski: It’s in one multiplayer map right now. It’s a little unbalanced, so we don’t want to put it in every map. But it’s a big part of Horde. Once you get to the point where you unlock it, you’ll be stomping around. It’s in one map in the multiplayer, though. It doesn’t just spawn immediately. You have to hit a couple buttons, and it takes a couple minutes to appear so it’s not a deal-breaker.”
I don’t really see the crime here. Do you? It sounds fun. More importantly, it is something that no one has played yet. Give it a chance. There’s always room for mech suits.
