Infinity Ward has confirmed that the Playstation 4 and Xbox One will handle Call of Duty: Ghosts a bit differently. The PS4 will run Ghosts at a native 1080p resolution, while the Xbox One will run the game at 720p upscaled to 1080p.

Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven’t had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we’re 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we’re native 1080p on PS4.  We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both. Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction.  Can’t wait for next week’s launch.

The PS4 and Xbox One both use APUs supplied by AMD — pairing AMD x86 CPU cores with Radeon-based GPU cores. While the hardware in both systems have a lot in common, the PS4 is a more powerful machine — it uses GDDR5 memory (and its higher memory bandwidth), more compute units on the GPU, and more ROPs to draw the image.

Ghosts isn’t the first Xbox One game to run at a lower-than-1080p resolution. Battlefield 4 reportedly runs at 720p on the Xbox One (compared to 900p on the PS4), and Ryse will run at 900p at 30fps on the One. Many of the lower-res games will be upscaled to 1080p.
