You may remember Company of Heroes, a 2006 real-time strategy game for PC, which proved wildly popular and lead to a couple of spin-off games. To celebrate ten years since the release, and the dedication of it's fans, steam workshop support has been added to the game.
Set in 1941, just before the start of World War II, the game allows you to take command of the iconic Soviet Red Army in brutal frontline warfare against the invading German Nazis. The game is a real time strategy game, where your skills and tactical knowledge are key to be able to take your army to victory as you invade your way towards Berlin. The game was well known for it's impressive destructible environments, meaning two battles never turned out quite the same way, as well as impressive AI and realistic tactical responsiveness.
SEGA and Relic Entertainment announced this past week that, to mark 10 years and the dedication of it's dedicated fans and modding community have played in keeping the game alive, that the game has been updated with Steam Workshop capabilities and a new, in-game Workshop hub which allows users to play, share and manage their mods and custom scenarios.
The update also includes Steam Trading Cards for the first time. Additionally, The Eastern Front Mod, which brings two original factions from Company of Heroes 2 into the original game, is now available as part of the update.
The best bit is, that for a limited time, you can pick up Company of Heroes and it's sequel for a massive 75% off ont he Steam store, with al DLC for the second game 66% off, too.
"Company of Heroes players are still blowing us away with their creativity and support," said Justin Dowdeswell, General Manager at Relic. "We count ourselves very lucky to see the energy we put into building this game given right back to us by the players."
So, if you're a Company of Heroes fan and have been looking to get back into the game, now seems to be the ideal time to do so!
