Daedalic have announced a new The Lord of the Rings game called Gollum. They have also stated that the game will "remain true" to J.R.R Tolkien's books as well as looking to "explore new events and details related to Gollum's journey".
The player will take on the role of Gollum, which is interesting as for all the other The Lord of the Rings games Gollum has either not been featured or been a very bit part player despite having one of the most fascinating and arguably important characters in the lore. The game will be featured on all consoles and of course PC powered by the Unreal Engine and is set to be released in 2021, so one can assume that if any new major console releases are scheduled before then or around that time this game will be on that console.
Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann said of the announcement:
At a time when the games industry is undergoing structural changes and seeing new business models evolve, we are excited to realise a huge new production based on a story that has stayed fresh and relevant for more than 60 years.
It is also believed from reading the press release that Daedalic aren't just in this for a single game, we could see further games from The Lord of the Rings series that are made which coincide quite nicely with the future release of Amazon's own feature series on The Lord of the Rings. The franchise is certainly stirring up major interest again from the movies, the beacons have been lit and as a huge fan I cannot wait for more The Lord of the Rings content!
