Our instructions for using the Dragon Age 2 Dev Console Cheats are arguably the most useful information on this page. Nevertheless, Dragon Age 2 promises to be a massive game, and massive games contain massive amounts of information. In order to marshall all this confusion, we’ve prepared this Cheats post, which will act as a repository for anything and everything useful we can find out about Dragon Age.

Dragon Age 2 Unlimited Gold and XP Glitch
- The first step of this glitch/exploit is to choose one of the “Find and Deliver” sidequests. “Bearded Beast” is the one we used in the video, but any of them will do.
- Go and retrieve the item you’re supposed to be collecting. In the case of “Bearded Beast,” you’ll have to travel to the Bone Pit and retrieve the remains of the titular beast, which are on the left, in the first area.
- Return to the questgiver with the item you collected. For the Bearded Beast, it’s a guy named Arintal the Lessar, down by the Docks.
- This is the key step. Before you reach the questgiver, draw your weapon.
- Initiate dialogue with the questgiver; before he or she is finished speaking, put away your weapon and begin slamming the action button. Each time you press it, you’ll receive money and experience. This can be repeated as many times as you like.
Dragon Age 2 Item Duplication/Free Gold Code
- Move the items you want to duplicate to Junk (Y Button). You can only duplicate only one set of items, any other will simply be sold, so move only one set in this step .
- Next, go to a merchant and choose to sell.
- Sell the whole stack.
- Now go to buy ,and then select buyback. Purchase ALL BUT ONE of the items back.
- Go back into the Sell menu and go to the Junk tab.
- Select the item stack. Here comes the tricky part… Press Y and A at almost the same time. The item will disappear from your junk list, but a Sell prompt should still appear.
- Now go back to Buy/Buyback and you will notice that the quantity of the items the merchant has are doubled. Repeat steps 3-4 as many times as you like for infinite gold and stacks of items up to 999.
Dragon Age 2 Shield Equip Armor Glitch
For warrior class Hawke and Avaline, you can actually boost your armor to 100 percent just by equipping and unequipping a shield. It’s extremely simple, and exploits a bug that doesn’t reduce your armor stat after you unequip a shield, but does raise it when the shield is added.
To use the glitch, just equip a shield, then unequip it, then requip it. Just keep hitting the button until your Armor stat is as high as you want it, all the way up to 100 percent.
Dragon Age 2 Dev Console Cheats
Enabling the Dev Console
Using a Shortcut:
- Make a shortcut to your Dragon Age 2 executable file (“DragonAge2.exe”). Put it wherever you’d like.
- Click on the shortcut, select “Properties,” then add this attribute -enabledeveloperconsole to the end of the line in the “Target” field.
- Ensure that there is a space between the last quotation mark in the shortcut location and the added code.
Editing a Game File
- This method, for more advanced users, will enable you to use the game’s normal shortcut, but is slightly more risky. Make sure to make a backup of the file before you edit it.
- Find the file “…Dragon Age II/data/DragonAge2Launcher.xml” and open it in a text editor.
- Find the line
<condition name=”FirstRunCheck” type=”FileExist” file=”${USERDATA_DIR}SystemInformation.xml”> The line below it should read as follows: <true action=”execute” file=”${BINARIES_DIR}DAOrigins.exe” path=”${BINARIES_DIR}” autoquit=”true” />
- At this point, you’ll want to add an attribute: arguments=”-enabledeveloperconsole”
- When finished, the line will read
- <<true action=”execute” file=”${BINARIES_DIR}DAOrigins.exe” path=”${BINARIES_DIR}” autoquit=”true” arguments=”-enabledeveloperconsole” />
In Steam (Thanks to user “Mike” for this information!)
- Follow the instructions for editing the game XML file, above.
- Edit the KeyBindings.ini file (described under “Activating the Dev Console,” below)
- Change the line to OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_F12 (or another hot key)
- This is strange, but effective — make sure to hit tilde first before hitting the hotkey (or hit the two keys at the same at the same time).
Activating the Dev Console
Once you’ve ensured that the game is loading it up at launch, you’ll need a way to turn the dev console on. This involves modifying the key bindings .ini file, located in C:Users(your name)DocumentsBioWareDragon Age 2SettingsKeyBindings.ini. You’ll need to search this file for the line “OpenConsole_0=”. After the equals sign, type “Keyboard::Button_”, then pick a button you’d like to use. Many people prefer “Tilde,” between Tab and Esc, but the choice is yours. If you’re worried about conflicts, you can use the command “Control+Keyboard:: Button_X” to bind console activation to Ctrl+X.
ONCE ACTIVATED, THERE WILL BE NO INDICATION THAT THE CONSOLE IS WORKING. IT IS INVISIBLE. THE ONLY WAY TO TEST IT IS BY TYPING IN THE COMMANDS BELOW TO SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY EFFECT. EVEN WHILE TYPING THEM, YOU WILL NOT SEE ANY CHANGE ONSCREEN.
Fun Console Commands!
Verified Commands (Confirmed as working in Dragon Age 2)
(A few of these were contributed by commenter “Chrisssssss.” Thanks, Chrisssssss!)

- runscript addxp X – This works not only for your current party, but for you and all your companions.

Unverified Commands (These worked in Dragon Age: Origins, but may not work in Dragon Age 2)
- runscript bowlingforferelden – This command surrounds you with a ball of energy and allows you to knock over incoming enemies like bowling pins.
- runscript cheater – Unlocks achievements.
- runscript pc_immortal – Your health cannot drop below 0.
- runscript zz_deathblow – Automatically sends your character into the deathblow animation that corresponds to the weapon you have equipped.
Dragon Age 2 PC Saved Game Editor Cheats
- Go grab the file and open it.
- From within the saved game editor, find and load the .das file of your game. It’ll be fairly small, around 200KB. Find it here: C:Users[username]DocumentsBioWareDragon Age 2Characters[character name]saves[latest autosave directory]
- The editor should show you a screen more or less like this, and you can adjust the numerical values to amp up your various stats.
- Use Save As on your game file. You’ll want to save your original in case something get screwed up.
- If you’ve got more advanced plans, check out the post on the Bioware forums, as FearCain has some really detailed instructions.
- Enjoy totally cheating on Dragon Age 2!
Dragon Age 2 PC Saved Game Generator
Gibbed’s Dragon Age Save Generator allows those of you who don’t have a saved Dragon Age: Origins to create a Dragon Age: Origins save file user-specific plot and character options (and, apparently, does take the DLC into account) for importing to your Dragon Age 2 game. In other words, if you never played DAO or deleted your files, you don’t have to grind through DAO again, or begin Dragon Age 2 with the suckiest possible start point.
Obviously this one’s strictly for the PC gamers in the house, and they can download a copy here.
