In a post on the EA website CEO Andrew Wilson has announced that there is organisational change afoot at EA as they look to address their challenges and "prepare for the new opportunities ahead." From the post the changes coming are deliberate and they are changes to meet the requirements of the times ahead, EA are certainly looking into the future and have seem to taken a similar line to that of Activision Blizzard and also ArenaNet too by making changes to their marketing and publishing teams including operations too so there seems to be a worrying trend occurring this year.
They are also looking to reduce their presence in Japan and Russia, but are not giving up on those markets at all they are just looking at different ways to look after players in those counties. We have learnt that approximately 350 roles will be affected which equates to just under 4% of EAs total workforce will be affected.
CEO Andrew Wilson stated:
These are important but very hard decisions, and we do not take them lightly. We are friends and colleagues at EA, we appreciate and value everyone’s contributions, and we are doing everything we can to ensure we are looking after our people to help them through this period to find their next opportunity. This is our top priority.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the EA staff who are potentially at risk and hope they find a new job soon.
