Welcome one and all to the 128th FileFront Weekly Insider!

It's that time of the week again, and I am back! :) Therefore we have listed all the major gaming happenings for you below, and remember, if you see something that you would like to be added to the Insider, or if you have a suggestion, simply drop us an E-Mail at The Insider! Just a heads up, there will be no Insider released for next week, for obvious reasons (...those of you that are having trouble connecting the dots, next week is Christmas :) ) At this time, before any official announcement gets made, I would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a safe & Happy New Year! We hope you enjoy the Staff in this week's 'Spotlight', and enjoy the editorial! "Goody10"

  • My name is Ian and I started my FileFront life on the forums as a regular member in 2005. My first action on the forums was to clash with one of the mods there (Merrick) but this did not stop us becoming friends. I was made the Soffiles site manger when Sir Paul left in 2007. I met Sir Paul in real life a few months before that and he recommended me for the position. The first month was quite difficult as I had not worked for the network sites before this. Thankfully the Network Admins and Sir Paul soon whipped me into shape. Along with Soffiles I took on a moderaters postition on the forums for Soldier of fortune closely followed by Medal of honor, FEAR and Call of Duty. In October 07 after a lot of discussion I took on the task of forming the FileFront Clan. I obtained servers and pushed for forum and Network space which was given to us and the clan was born. Since then the clan has not been as busy as we expected but that has not stopped us from developing it. We are about to relaunch and restructure to clan in the hope it becomes more popular. My favourite part about the job is testing the files before posting them especially the really bad ones ;)

Chris "cRiSsI"

  • Hey soldiers! Here's Chris for a little debriefing of my adventure at Filefront. First of all, I'm 18 years old boy and I live in Canada. I joined the Filefront gaming network as a MoHFiles user on June 7th 2006 at 15:13 :D. At that time, Sir Paul was the site manager at MoHFiles and I was starting to make my first 'mods' for Medal of Honor. In 2007, Sir Paul retired from his site manager position leaving MoHFiles with no staff. Falcon93, which was and still is a friend of mine, filled the position and chose me as Vice-Site manager on July 10th 2007 (sorry I don't have the exact time for this one). So yea that's how I became staff on the network. With Sir Paul's departure and the release of Medal of Honor : Airborne, I thought the Medal of Honor forum at the Filefront Gaming Forums needed a new moderator. I sent a PM to Lord Wiener and few days later I also became moderator on the forums. FYI, I joined the Gaming Forums back in 2006 around the same time I joined MoHFiles. Unfortunately, Medal of Honor Airborne wasn't really a great success and the lack of modding tools killed a part of the Medal of Honor community. Ok I know what you are thinking now.. Why the hell did you choose cRiSsI as your username? Doesn't it sound a bit girly? Well.. yes it does :P I started playing Medal of Honor in 2003-2004 with friends. As you know, my real name is Chris and my friends thought it was funny to call me Chrissy. So just as I joke I started playing under the name 'crissi'. But then Medal of Honor was becoming serious business for me and I was starting to have a reputation on few servers, but always as 'crissi'. So I was kinda stuck with that name lol. I don't play Medal of Honor a lot anymore but when I do I appear under the name : -Slick-cRiSsI.[Qc] At the moment I don't play a lot of games especially because I started college this year and I don't have as much time as I did before. I play ijji Gunz from time to time along with Medal of Honor. Well that's all. Cya around all! Chris (cRiSsI) MoHFiles Vice-Manager

This week, we are fortunate to be welcoming back our very own man about words IKS with this week's editorial about a recently released game that is the gleam in a few gamer's eyes!

Sins of a Solar Empire - A Diamond in the Rough! This game is a hidden gem. A relatively new game still in its infancy, Sins as it’s affectionately known by fans, is an RTS slash 4x space saga which deserves more attention that what it gets. Sins is like the pretty girl with the huge glasses down the back of the class that no one notices - stick her in a red dress, ditch the glasses, doll her up and everyone's jaw drops. But sins never got the red dress unfortunately so here I am in Freddy Prince mode trying to get you to check this game out. At first the sheer scope of the game's environment will be daunting, but don't fall at the first hurdle (don't n00b out!!!). With a little patience and developing skill you will pick this game up fast and when you do the true worth of what this game has to offer will shine through. This depth of this game will knock the weaker RTS players for the count at first, but don't be intimidated by the task of getting into the game, as Bill Adama says “sometimes you gotta roll the hard six†- roll up the sleeves and get on with it! After trudging through the complexity of the game's logistics (moving ships to distant locations takes time), tactics, research and gameplay you will become proficient enough to enjoy razing planets, buckling enemy hulls and basically bending their back over your knee just to hear the final snap as your fleet rages into the vicinity of their Homeworld. Another great feature of Sins is the mod community-friendly developers, Ironclad/Stardock who are actively releasing patches, tools and very soon a brand new expansion pack called Entrenchment (which will change the whole gameplay of Sins). Entrenchment basically boils down to starbase support being added to the game, you might say yeah so how does that change the whole gameplay? Well to be honest, Sins is that kind of game even a starbase changes the whole stratagem of the battlefield. To me its a game that invokes proper tactics and strategy, its not a build 40 battleships and flood the enemy base type game - you try swarming enemy bases in Sins and you'll get your backside reddened. I have played for 10-15 hours straight while being locked in a massive galactic battle against a few friends - one map, a few players and lots of serious slugging. But not all Sins games will last that long, depending on the map you play. The ingame easy to use map designer is another excellent feature which will dictate what type of game you want to play. Alas this game does have its ace in the hole - the Saved Multiplayer Game Feature. The save multiplayer games feature is what hooked me, if you and a friend are playing sins and after 4 hours of battle you want to quit the game to go run errands you simply save it and go back to it another day. If you are smart enough you will go back yourself and play the saved game as your friend's forces against the AI to gain "Intel" on what they were doing… It's called field study: D Mods for it are few and far between, like the Homeworld series though the mods that do get released are fantastic. Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate and even BSG mods are being developed for this game, it is that good. It has so much potential yet there is one major monkey on this game's back - the lack of a single player storyline. However this faux pas will be rectified or is at least being planned on being remedied by the devs in the future. For some it’s Homeworld 3, just without the Higarans, Vaygr and Taidanii. For others it’s the beginning of a new space-saga. I highly recommend this game, go to SolarFiles to check out our site, go to YouTube to watch some videos of it and check out the official website because you will not be disappointed IKS Awesome job IKS, makes me want to head over to SolarFiles and check out this game for myself! ~Rebel
