The Entertainment Retailers Association have conducted some research over last year’s sales figures and have calculated that the video games industry now accounts for more than half of the UKs entertainment market.
The UK gaming industry is now worth approximately £3.9bn and that has doubled since 2007. The industry has no doubt adapted quicker and better to consumer demands such as having the ability to buy games digitally and being able to offer such wide ranging genres and features for games than it’s ever done before.
FIFA 19 tops of the charts for console games in 2018 with over 1.8 million physical sales sold, and Red Dead Redemption 2 just under 1.8 million. The next closest was Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with 1.1 million
Some of the analysis like at the reasons for the growth owing to different segments options available like subscription, free to play but with in game payment add-ons and other monetisation options which give it the edge over other forms of media.
