Those of you with a good memory may remember Gears of War: Exile, a new entry in everybody’s favorite game about hulking masses of humongous man meat. Planned to debut at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards, we have seen neither hide nor hair of Exile since we heard the first rumblings. Now, Sir Clifford Bleszinski has confirmed that the game is canceled, so all five of you can stop thinking about it.

“Let’s just bury the hatchet now,” he told GameSpot>. “Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can’t give any details about that has since been cancelled.”

Following the game’s sudden pull from the Spike VGA docket, it was suggested that Exile would be an on-rails Kinect shooter to join all the other on-rails Kinect games. If that’s indeed what it was, perhaps someone had the good sense to consider such an idea ludicrous and yank it from existence. Of course, we will never know … not until someone who worked on it quits Epic and spills all the beans. Until then, details on this canceled project shall remain a mystery. Because we all, all of us, cared.
