Gone Home, the fantastic, emotional adventure in videogame storytelling, is set in the 1990s. Now, thanks to an amateur designer, it will look like a game created in the ’90s.

Polygon directs us to Seth Macy, a Maine-based game maker who decided to demake Gone Home into an old-school, top-down, 16-bit  Japanese RPG.

Macy loved Gone Home and after toying with RPG Maker, he decided to use the platform to transform the award-winning first-person adventure. After he got started, he realized he should make sure such a project was A-OK with The Fullbright Company, the makers of Gone Home. They not only gave him the green light, they tweeted about the project, immediately sparking interest across the tubes.

The project is still very much in the early stages, buy Macy has released a set of screenshots that suggest a 16-bit JRPG is the perfect fit for Gone Home. See for yourself below:

Looking forward to seeing how Macy’s project turns out. Gone Home is not only a terrific indie game, many gaming journos believe it’s one of the best games of 2013 period. And now is a great time to find out for yourself. Gone Home is currently $6.79 on Steam.
