Unfortunate news for fans looking forward to the spectacular GTA V Redux mod we covered a few weeks ago; a targeted hack against the mod author means there will be some delays to the release, but thankfully not for long.

The mod author was a victim of a targeted attack, which has left the assets for the mod compromised and caused some data loss, thankfully, several backups had been made, and the therefor the incident should only cause a minor delay to the project.

Last week my home network and computer was hacked, and Redux compromised. Everything has been secured, although some data has been lost in the process. This will not prevent the project from being released in any way, it is merely a small delay. I have multiple external backups of the project, and what was lost will be back up in no time. I appreciate everyone’s patience during this unfortunate time.

There's no clear information yet from Josh Romito, the creator of GTA V Redux, as to the exact nature of the hacking attempt or who may have been behind it.

Quite why anyone would be motived to attack the project, I'm not really sure. Maybe it's the intrusive advertising on the mod's official site. who knows?

The good news is that there's plenty of good stuff to look forward to: as well as a total visual overhaul, with ENB, texture and shader enhancements, there's also a totally enhanced weather system, as well as gameplay tweaks, such as improved Police AI and weapon and population changes.

The mod now has a projected release date of September 16th. The mod was originally due to come out this Friday.
