The Grand Theft Auto 5 news keeps coming and coming, and it’s good news on two fronts today.
Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar just confirmed that their latest San Andreas epic has reached $1 billion on worldwide sales in just three days, Grand Theft Auto 5 reached the milestone faster than any other piece of media in history, besting Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II (15 days in 2012), and Marvel’s The Avengers (19 days in 2012).
From Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick: “Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment. We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V.”
Millions around the globe (our guess is somewhere around 14-15 million) are enjoying Grand Theft Auto 5 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, we have yet to see any official announcement about a PC version. Speculation points to possible next-gen and PC SKUs to be announced at the same time in the coming months, but many PC gamers feel snubbed, especially after supporting GTA IV on the PC for so long. There is a silver lining, however, and it’s growing bigger every day.
The “Release GTA V on PC” petition over on change.org just passed the 496,000 mark, which leaves it less than 4,000 signatures away from the 500,000 goal. Will this petition accomplish anything tangible? Probably not, but the solidarity factor is hard to ignore. Hopefully the petition meets its goal before the end of the day.
