Starfield's ship-building mechanics aren't exactly intuitive, and while it's possible to build some pretty wild custom designs, most players are happy to go through the upgrade wizard, add some fancy guns and change the paint scheme - at least, at first. The truth is that even simple tasks like naming your pride and joy can be a little difficult to figure out.
Fear not, fellow traveller, as we've got a simple how-to guide on renaming your ship in just a few steps. Firstly, you'll want to pay a visit to a service technician. You'll be able to find these at any spaceport. Most commonly, you'll find these at major cities throughout Starfield, but they might also be in other larger settlements such as Paradiso or Cydonia.
Once you locate a technician, select the option to "view and modify" your ships;
Once you're in the ship editing menus, select the ship you want to rename, and then press the X button to open the Ship Builder. From there, you'll need to follow these steps (we're using an Xbox controller on PC, but follow the appropriate prompts for Keyboard and mouse if required);
There are a few caveats to this, firstly, you'll need to ensure the ship is actually registered to you before the game will allow you to rename it. It's free to rename your ship, though, and you can do so as often as you want. Naturally, you can also upgrade and change your ship while on these menus, although these cost money.
I named my ship Starbug, points to anyone in the comments who gets the reference there... and happy exploring!
