Homeworld 3, the highly anticipated space opera real-time strategy game, has faced another setback, with its release being delayed until February 2024. Blackbird Interactive, the studio behind the game, cited the need for more time to ensure that Homeworld 3 meets the same high bar that its predecessors have set.

The decision to delay the game was apparently driven by the studio's commitment to delivering a Homeworld experience that does justice to the series' incredible legacy. Blackbird expressed its gratitude for the passion and dedication of the fans and assured them that the game is moving in the right direction.

According to the studio, the delay was not caused by any specific issue but rather by a desire to raise the bar and provide players with an experience that exceeds the iconic standards the previous Homeworld games set. However, the studio emphasized that the game's scope remains unchanged and is committed to delivering on all the promises made thus far.

Blackbird also addressed concerns regarding its four-day work week, which was implemented in 2022. The studio clarified that the reduced work week was not responsible for the delay and stated that the team could achieve even more when given additional personal time. The studio believes that the inspiration and energy from the extra time with family, friends, and personal hobbies have fueled many innovations players can expect in Homeworld 3.

Homeworld 3 holds a special place in the hearts of gamers, as the original Homeworld game was a well-deserved hit upon its release in 1999. The franchise continued with two sequels, Homeworld: Cataclysm and Homeworld 2, both over a decade old now. After dormancy, Gearbox remastered the games in 2015, revitalizing interest in the series. In 2016, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, a ground-based prequel, further demonstrated the series' quality and received critical acclaim.

Homeworld 3 was initially slated for a 2022 release but was pushed back to 2023 by Blackbird Interactive to avoid a crunch and ensure a healthier development process. Although an exact release date has not been announced, the studio plans to provide updates about the game's features and progress in the upcoming months.

It's for the best that companies start taking extra time to avoid the AAA release mess we've been seeing of late in 2023.
