After three years in development, Lost Alpha Developer's Cut, a mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which aims to create an entirely new episode in the series' story, has finally been released as a patch for the original mod.
The mod harkens back to the original publicity material for the game, from way back in the early 2000's, and tries to capture some of that look and feel within entirely original story, with new features and enhancements over the original game. The release of the mod today is quite apt, as it marks 31 years exactly since the disaster in Chernobyl's nuclear power plant, the setting that inspired the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise.
The main goals of the Developer's Cut is to squash a lot of the bugs that were present in the mod's original release - a forced release due to the project being leaked unexpectedly. Much more polish and stability makes it a much nicer experience. New content has also been added, expanding upon and finishing work that was in progress at the time of the original release.
A full list of the additions and changes, which is quite comprehensive, is available here on Dezowave's site.
Once the new release has had some time to bed in and hotfixes applied, the team intend to re-release the mod as a stand-alone download, but for now, you can download the original mod here and the new Developer's Cut patch here.
