It’s no surprise to learn that Windows 8 frustrated many of its users, especially game designers and publishers. Its mobile-oriented platform and design principles raised eyebrows at Blizzard and Mojang, and seemed to reinforce the notion that Microsoft releases great Windows systems every other generation. Naturally, that just leaves us wondering what’s planned for Windows 9, and we shouldn’t have long to wait: During a livestreamed press event, Microsoft France President Alain Crozier said the operating system will be unveiled in a few days.
Earlier reports teased that Windows 9 would be revealed Sept. 30, which lines up with Crozier’s comments. What’s surprising is the name itself. Microsoft previously stated that future Windows OS clients had yet to be named, and may not even use numerical titles. But Crozier specifically called the software Windows 9, raising the question of whether that’s a code name, or if something has changed behind the scenes.
Regardless, we hope to see more details on upcoming OS features very soon. At that point, we’ll know whether Windows 9 is worth the upgrade, or if we should stick with Windows 7 for the immediate future.
