Mod tools released for COD: Black Ops III

Despite Infinite Warfare's release coming in a little over a month's time, Treyarch are showing that they haven't forgotten about Black Ops III just yet: today's new update, version 15.1, releases mod tools into general availability for the first time.

While the tools are still in beta, according to the developer's statement on the Steam Community Page, this does mark the first public and widely-available release of the mod tools, which users can now download and install by visiting the "Tool" section of their Steam library.

Many of you have expressed interest in testing the tools, so we are very excited to open up access to the whole community. We also want to thank all of the Alpha testers for their support in getting the tools ready for Open Beta. The tools and related in-game features are all still in Beta testing phase so expect some updates along the way. Your feedback will be very valuable in helping us find and address the most important issues, so thank you in advance for your support

Included in the package are all the heavy-duty tools you'll need to make truly spectacular mods, including a custom version of the ever-loved Radiant map-editing and creation tool, an asset property editor, and much more. The new mods tools come with some very handy documentation, too.

Mods that are created for the game will be usable in both unranked servers and on custom game lobbies, but naturally will be disabled for competitive games.

With a new found interest in providing powerful mod tools such as Radiant, something games aren't doing enough of these days, hopefully it won't take as long for similar tools to become available for the next game in the franchise. In the mean time though, we'll be keeping our eyes out for the best mods to become available using the new tools over the next few weeks!
