Mortal Kombat 1 is packed with signature brutality and gore

By FileTrekker 4 months ago, last updated 4 months ago

Mortal Kombat 1 was revealed at Summer Games Fest, and its trailer didn't fail to deliver gruesome action and nostalgic character appearances. The series legendary creator, Ed Boon, has expanded on some details with a new, extended gameplay showcase, which we've recapped below;

The footage showcased portions of the game's story mode, which serves as a prequel, reintroducing beloved characters in their earlier stages of development before being treated to a glimpse of Scorpion and Sub-Zero in their human forms, revealing a fresh take on these iconic fighters. Kung Lao also appeared, showcasing his skills with a standard, non-sharpened hat, which seems to be a new, unique twist on his signature move.

Jean-Claude Van Damme's hyped portrayal of Johnny Cage was also previewed, and to top it all off, we were teased with a glimpse of Mileena's transformation into a grotesque, horrid-mouthed monster. True to its roots, Mortal Kombat 1 isn't shying away from showcasing its trademark brutality, with a barrage of highly grotesque fatalities, staying true to the franchise's reputation for over-the-top violence.

One exciting addition showcased in the gameplay trailer included Kameo Fighter characters. These characters will assist during battles, offering support to the main cast. Ed Boon explained that players could select Kameo Fighters after choosing their main character, with Sonya, Jax, and Kano as potential assist options. It looks like an interesting new mechanic offering exciting new strategies and character combos.

The best bit is that we won't have to wait too much longer to get our hands on it, with the game currently scheduled for release in September, with a beta version set to launch in August, although only those who pre-order the game will gain access to the beta test
