Posted on November 4, 2013, Phil Owen Need for Speed: Rivals Now a PS4 Launch Title
Previously set for release on November 22 alongside the Xbox One edition — with current-gen and PC getting it November 19 — the PlayStation 4 version of Need for Speed: Rivals will not be hitting retailers on November 15, otherwise known as the day the PS4 launches in North America.
This is particularly notable for a couple reasons; Sony recently delayed its first-party racing game DriveClub from that day into 2014, and so this gives the early adopters a driving game to play on launch weekend; and it’s reasonable to assume that it had been scheduled for the Xbox One’s launch day because of some deal EA had worked out with Microsoft, meaning there might have been some fun backroom deals made to facilitate this move. Now, however, PS4 owners will be the first group of consumers to be able to play Rivals. It’s also notable that Target is planning to offer a buy-2-get-1-free deal on all in-stock games during the PS4′s launch week (deal ending November 16).
