After a few months of hype over a new Nintendo console, rumoured to be a console/handheld hybrid, Nintendo have announced their latest entry into the console market which is named the Nintendo Switch.
The Switch, as it turns out, is actually a handheld / console hybrid and it actually looks pretty damn cool. Watch the trailer below:
My initial reactions were: "What the... Skyrim? That's not on Nintendo" and then my mind was blown by the possibilities of this new type of console. You'd effectively never need to save and quit a game if you need to leave the house, you can simply take it with you.
I personally envisage this being used a lot on public transport, which is a pro. A potential con could be that it's going to be more like the Augmented Reality factor that Pokèmon Go had in that people will be walking around with very little awareness of what is around them. Only time will tell however.
Another worry which I have is that once again Nintendo have purposely decided to break the mould with this new offering. They're once again introducing remotes for the portable aspect, as well as using cartridges for the games (It's 2016, why are we still using cartridges?). They've gone different in a big way, and I don't know if it will pay off.
The release date has been penned at March 2017, which seems very soon as we're already in October so I'm personally predicting that it's either 80% ready or there are going to be delays in releasing it, though it does seem a missed opportunity that it's not going to arrive in time for Christmas.
Personally though, I'm excited. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
