A few recent leaks in the competitive world of graphics cards have revealed benchmarks for NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 780 and AMD’s Radeon HD 7970. 2012 is shaping up to be a great year for PC gaming eye-candy.

The above picture shows the huge jump in performance between the current GTX 580 and the next-gen GTX 780, using a Core i7-3960X as a test system, running at 2560×1600 resolution with both AA and AF enabled. Your eyes aren’t deceiving you — that looks like double the performance.

NIVIDIA’s leak came shortly after AMD’s:

The AMD Radeon HD 7970, rumored to launch December 22nd, boasts an average performance increase of 50% relative to the Radeon 6970 when it comes to tesselation. Was the NVIDIA “leak” an effort to one-up AMD’s leak?

Of course, both of these leaked pictures should be taken with a grain of salt until anything official is released.
