I like these Dead Space animated movies, er, movie, because they don’t really demand my attention, but they’re there if I for some reason start getting really interested in taking a deeper look into the Dead Space universe.

But, yeah, apparently Downfall was popular enough to warrant another one of these things, and so a new one, Aftermath, is coming on Dead Space 2′s release date, which is January 25. Holy crap that’s pretty soon. Anyway, despite being tied to Dead Space 2 by release date, Aftermath is going to have more to do with the first game than the second. The plot, per the press release:

In Dead Space Aftermath, the year is 2509 and not only has Earth lost contact with the USG Ishimura and Isaac Clarke, but also the USG O’Bannon, which is the first responder ship sent to rescue them. Four crew members of the O’Bannon have survived, but no one knows what happened to the rest of the crew, what they were doing, or what secrets they may be holding. All will be revealed…in the Aftermath!

Cool, I guess. This thing will be arriving on DVD and Blu-ray and, presumably, the cloud, which is how I watched Downfall. Here’s a trailer (via Kotaku):

That’s pretty gross.
