Posted on May 26, 2011, Phil Hornshaw OnLive Demo Lets You Play the First 30 Minutes of Red Faction: Armageddon
PC game streaming service OnLive won’t release Red Faction: Armageddon in full until June 7 when it hits traditional store shelves, but players with an Internet connection (that should be you, right?) can get a taste of it right now, right here.
OnLive is currently offering one of its time-trial demos of the game to let players try a title out before they buy it. Since OnLive’s downloader and service are free (you pay for the games you want either rental-style or as full purchases, apart from the subscription-based Play Pack that includes about 50 games for a monthly subscription), that means anybody can grab the OnLive app from their website and fire up 30 full minutes of the beginning of Red Faction.
What’s cool about the OnLive demo is that it’s not really a demo at all, and not in the same sense as the Armageddon demo that hit Xbox Live earlier this month. This is actually the game as you’ll play it when you buy it.
If you decide you like OnLive and Armageddon, you can choose to preorder the game through the streaming service, and OnLive will throw in Red Faction: Guerrilla and send you one of its streaming micro consoles that you can hook up to your TV — allowing you to play streaming PC games through OnLive somewhere other than your computer. It’s a pretty solid value for the price of a single PC game.
