Starbreeze Studios, the creators of the Payday series, have confirmed that they expect the third entry in the series to be released sometime in either 2022 or 2023, putting the game around 2-3 years away.
The news comes as the studio have struggled recently, with several staff members being released from their jobs and sales of Overkill's The Walking Dead doing very poorly. That game was expected to sell millions of copies, but in the end only sold a few hundred thousand.
The company remain optimistic despite this major setback though, stating they expect a future upswing in fortunes on the back of Payday 3. Speaking on a recent blog post, the studio said;
The company estimates that these cash flows will be positive, based on expected new publishing agreements in 2020 and an expected release of PAYDAY 3 in 2022–2023
Hopefully the company remain well enough to see the development through to completion, but should new agreements be signed soon, this should prove a positive sign. The company have fell on various hard times as of late, with several other projects, such as The Raid: World War Two and a foray into the VR space all falling flat and costing the company.
