Generally speaking, being able to update your console’s software is a good thing. The latest PlayStation 4 update, for example, added SharePlay features and even a long-overdue YouTube app. The bad news is that such updates can cause their own share of bugs. In this case, the exact same PlayStaion 4 update is preventing many users from exiting Rest Mode.
Twitter and Reddit users are reporting that upon entering Rest Mode with the latest patch, you can’t turn the PS4 back on. If this happens, the only option is to manually reset the system, risking damage to the console and its files. And that’s on top of other reported issues, ranging from volume fluctuations to inconsistent connectivity.
Sony is currently looking into this issues, and will likely have a fix in the near future. Sadly, there’s no ETA for when the update to the PlayStation 4 update will be available. So until the issue is resolved, we’d recommend turning off your PS4 entirely. It’s far better to do that then find yourself with a bricked console.
