Pixelmon, the popular Minecraft mod that re-creates the Pokemon series within the game, has been shut down by The Pokémon Company, following a cease and desist letter which has forced all development on the project to be halted.
One of the project developers, MrMasochism, had the following statement to make on Pixelmon forums;
With much sadness, but keeping all our fond memories, we must announce that Pixelmon is ending its development,” wrote MrMasochism, an administrator on the Pixelmon forum and member of the production team. “We have had a great time making this mod and creating such a wonderful community but after a request from the Pokémon company we will be shutting our doors.
The mod has been in development since 2013, and has proved very popular, with both the Minecraft and Pokémon franchises appealing to players of similar age ranges. It was a pretty accurate re-creation of the classic Nintendo GameBoy games, and included the familiar graphical style of that game. Some players hailed it as the most impressive mod for Minecraft ever.
