While Prey 2017 has been well received among gamers and critics, it does at times feel a little too easy to complete, especially on a second playthrough of the game. This mod aims to add additional challenge and difficulty, making it a much more intense experience.

The mod comes from author jvames, and reintroduces several game mechanics that were cut from the game before it's release. The player now suffers from various random injuries, such as burns, concussions, loss of vision and broken limbs. Crucially, you must now locate specific cures for these ailments, or find medial assistance for any physical injury.

In addition to this, a new skill is added to the game, Field Surgeon, which allows regular med-kits to heal injuries. The downside to this, however, is that water will no longer heal you, and food will heal you very little.

New items have been added to clutter up your inventory, meaning inventory management will be key to success in this harder version of the game, especially as Typhons no longer drop any weapons or ammo.

Enemies have received additional health, and players no longer receive a Mimic detection chip,  making enemies much harder to detect and defeat, which when combined with the lack of item glow, makes exploring environments much more tense.

While not yet in the game, the author did say he intended to add oxygen meters and weapon degradation into the game, but so far has not been able to make this work, but this may still appear in a future update.

You can download the mod now from NexusMods.
