Posted on January 19, 2011, Phil Owen Red Faction Movie Has a Cast
Did you know a Red Faction movie was happening? It is (that news is many months old), but it’s not nearly as exciting as you might expect because it’s a TV movie. A Syfy movie, in fact, which could mean anything in terms of quality, considering you’d expect this to have somewhat of a budget behind it. And it’s a backdoor pilot of sorts, so we’ll see.
The movie is called Red Faction: Origins, which makes little sense as it’s about Alex, er, Alec Mason (WHY THE F–K ARE THERE TWO AAA GAMES THAT HAVE COME OUT WITHIN THE PAST TWO YEARS WITH IDENTICALLY NAMED PROTAGONISTS?*) and his son, which means it takes place after the third game in the franchise, but whatever. The T-1000, Robert Patrick, will play Alec, and Brian J Smith of Stargate Universe plays his son, Jake. Aside from that, we have Gareth David-Lloyd of Torchwood, bitch-ass Cylon Kate Vernon, and Devon Graye from Dexter. Oh, and Tamzin Merchant from The Tudors and Pride and Prejudice (the good one).
This asshole is gonna air on Syfy in May, because Syfy treats these things like pilots, which means the turnaround is rill fast. I’ll definitely watch it, because maybe it’ll directly tie in with RF Armageddon. Maybe the titular “origins” are the origins of the monsters. Or something. I gotta do it for my job, you see.
