Team Chivalry, the group behind the Half-Life 2 conversion Age Of Chivalry today announced a major expansion to the medieval combat mod. Entitled “Chivalry: Battle For Agatha“, the intent is to recreate the scope and tone of Hollywood blockbusters set in the land before hygiene, AKA the Middle Ages. Taking place in the fictional nation of “Agatha”, players will select from one of two factions – “Agathian Knights” and the “Mason Order” – and fight to the bloody death for control of all the land.
If the official statement holds, gameplay sounds quick, easy and action-packed. Players immediately pick from several available classes such as archers, knights, support, each with its own class-specific weapons. Combat sounds like a blast too – evasive tactics, precision strikes, blocks etc. There’s also siege warfare, (ye olde) urban combat, support for up to 40 players at a time, and of course, the thrill of knowing your defeated enemies will almost certainly die from infection caused by poor medical technology.
Unfortunately for those of you with limited medieval-themed purchasing budgets, it’s a commercial release only. No word yet on cost or the release date, but it sounds like a lot of fun. We’ll leave you with the trailer – it’s sparse, but the the in-game footage looks pretty good, if stilted, even at this developmental stage.
