Posted on October 30, 2012, Ross Lincoln Rockstar Confirms GTA V For Spring 2013 Release
Posters leaked over the weekend that appeared to reveal the launch window for Grand Theft Auto V are real, it has been confirmed. In a statement issued to the official Rockstar blog, and in a separate press release, Rockstar verified that Spring, 2013 is the intended time frame for the release of the hotly anticipated installment in the mega-successful series.
“Today, we’re proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto V is expected to launch worldwide spring 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3,” the statement says. “Starting next week November 5, 2012, Grand Theft Auto V will become available for pre-order everywhere and fans can expect a host of new information to become available in November.”
The interesting thing about this announcement is that Rockstar will only commit to the expectation of releasing the game in Spring, 2013, not to the actual release itself. This leave a lot of room in which to wiggle, and leaves open the possibility that the game may yet be delayed further. As is, the Spring, 2013 launch window almost certainly pushes Grand Theft Auto into the next fiscal year, which shrinks Take-Two’s projected earnings for the current year by some 450 million dollars. If that’s the case, it must mean that Take-Two has tremendous faith that GTA V is going to make that under performance worthwhile. Considering the success of the last two proper GTA games, (that would be GTA IV and San Andreas), this would probably be well-founded.
What’s troubling is that the announcement indicates that GTA V will only launch for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Failure to release a PC version feels like a tremendous mistake; particularly given the prolific love shown to GTA IV by modders. Hopefully, this just means release information is incomplete, and that a PC version will be announced soon. Rockstar will of course be revealing new information in November, and we’ll be letting you know as soon as it happens. In the meantime, here’s the latest promo art, courtesy of the Rockstar Blog:
