Posted on November 30, 2012, Ross Lincoln RUMOR: Xbox 720 Coming Holidays 2013
Bloomberg is reporting news that won’t come as a shock to anyone passingly familiar with the economics of the gaming industry: Microsoft is, according to sources, planning to unveil the next generation Xbox console during the 2013 holiday season.
The console, currently code-named ‘Durango’, referred to by everyone in the world as ‘Xbox 720′ and rumored to called simply ‘Xbox’, will apparently launch almost one year to the day after Wii U. Bloomberg’s sources are described only as “people familiar with the company’s plans,” and predictably, Microsoft declined comment, but the news makes sense. The company would almost certainly not want to let two years go by before competing directly with Wii U, especially as that system will, probably, eventually showcase true next-gen games by the end of next year.
We’ll still take this one with a grain of salt, however.
