Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games has confirmed that they're adding a second development studio, Turbulent, to the game's pipeline, who will be dedicated to making new content for the game.
Turbulent is a Canadian-based studio, which CIG bought a minority stake in last year. The new development team will be based in Montreal, and will be developing new locations, features and star systems for the game on an "ongoing basis."
It won't be Turbulent's first involvement with Star Citizen, as the company have previously worked on the support website, and some backend technology - but this will be their first foray into developing content for the game itself.
"I am extremely proud to officially announce the creation of a Star Citizen development team in Montreal at Turbulent," co-founder and chief technical officer Benoit Beausejour said. "Montreal has an amazing talent pool of developers and a rich video game history, and we couldn’t be happier to add the very best local talent to work with the CIG family on the focused goal of building worlds for this unprecedented persistent universe."
Star Citizen is currently holding one of its free-fly events, running through until December 2nd, so now's a good time to check out the game for free if you haven't done so already.

3 years agoThis is the first development in a long time that's given me real hope for the future of Star Citizen. The only way they're going to get the promise number of systems into this game in a reasonable number of years, is focus on procedural mass production first, then going back and adding in the "Hero zones". The current method of waiting for completed assets first, even if they can make one star system every month -- an absolutely ridiculous pace compared to current speed -- it would take more than eight more years!
