State on StarCraft is a weekly column on Game Front by Ryan “State” Visbeck, a pro StarCraft 2 player. Each week State brings you his unique perspective on all things StarCraft, including tips, tricks and stories from the front line of competitive play.

NOTE: “State” is officially sponsored by Game Front.

The Intel Extreme Masters StarCraft 2 Championship is this weekend. It will be the second event of this season’s tournament circuit and the third IEM to be held at New York Comic Con. This time around, 32 players—myself included—will compete for $25,000 and 3,600 WCS Points in prizes. It is the last non-WCS tournament awarding WCS Points this year. With the race for Top 16 so heated, this weekend’s results will play a huge factor in deciding who attends the Global Finals at BlizzCon in November.

I’m very excited to compete in my first Intel Extreme Masters. As a fan, IEM has always been one of my favorite tournaments to watch. I can’t wait to see what the experience is like from the other side of things. I’m also really, really looking forward to the Korean food in New York City.

The stream schedule and other information about IEM New York is available here. The first matches begin Thursday, and group stages kick off on Friday, so make sure to tune in! As always, you can follow me on Twitter for updates from the tournament venue.

I can’t wait to share my experiences with you guys. See you next week!

Check back every week for a new State on StarCraft post from Ryan “State” Visbeck!
