State on StarCraft is a weekly column on Game Front by Ryan “State” Visbeck, a pro StarCraft 2 player. Each week State brings you his unique perspective on all things StarCraft, including tips, tricks and stories from the front line of competitive play.
NOTE: “State” is officially sponsored by Game Front.
After a near four-month hiatus, StarCraft Proleague is back.
The new season kicked off this week at the recently opened Nexon Arena in Seoul, Korea. The arena is the first-ever eSports stadium built by a game developer and is the new home of StarCraft Proleague.
Proleague’s new arena is just one of many changes that happened in the off-season.
The diffusion of several teams, including last year’s champions, has brought about unexpected roster changes and the introduction of brand-new talent. SK Telecom T1—who many fans thought would take the title last season—now looks stronger than ever, and the addition of teams Incredible Miracle, MVP and Prime promises to make this year’s competition heated.
And it better be: with a prize pool nearing $150,000, this is the biggest Proleague yet.
I’m really excited to watch the next season of Proleague with you guys! Last year’s run was great, and the 2014 Proleague promises to be even better. You can look forward to seeing more features, guides and predictions on Proleague from me as the action begins to pick up in the next few weeks.
If you’re interested in watching Proleague live, check out their channel on Twitch here! Team Liquid’s Liquipedia is an excellent resource for keeping up on players’ and teams’ scores, and you can visit Proleague’s YouTube channel here to watch any matches you might have missed.
I’ll be participating in the GSL Code A Qualifiers on January 8th, so please cheer for me! You can send me a message on Twitter or leave a comment below if you’d like to show your support. In the meantime, here’s this week’s replay pack—and I’ll see you next week!
Check back every week for a new State on StarCraft post from Ryan “State” Visbeck!
