Saints Row IV is three years old now, but that hasn't stopped developers Deep Silver Volition from adding Steam Workshop support to the game this past week, inviting mod authors to make the already bizarre game even more insane.
I have to admit I wasn't a huge fan of IV - it took the stance of trying to differentiate itself from the Grand Theft Auto series by being overly zany and wacky, which is fine - but given the fact that it re-used the same map, more or less, from Saints Row III, it felt more like an 'Alien Invasion Expansion Pack' DLC than it's own game.
But there's no denying that the series has it's hard-core fans, and to celebrate the fact that Steam Workshop support has come to the game, it's on sale until the end of November, for £2.74 / $3.74 - so if you've ever wanted to try the game out, now would be a good time.
Kudos, by the way, to the developers at Volition who made this happen, working in their free time to update the game engine and removing memory restrictions, and enhancing the game to work correctly with multiple mods without the need for special tools. It's nice to see developers that care enough about a game franchise that they're willing to sink off hours into making it a better experience for it's fans.
There's not a lot to show in the Workshop currently, although there's quite a cool looking flamethrower guitar that I'll definitely be using from now on. Expect more mods to make their way into the workshop soon, though, with wacky costumes and hilarious new weapons no doubt being worked on as we speak.
