We reported some time ago that Edmund McMillen, the creator of The Binding of Isaac, will be releasing monthly mod-packs, with the best user-made mods to be included in the base game, for absolutely free. The first of those packs is available now!

The mod booster packs add, free of charge, a selection of the best mods deemed worthy to appear in the base game. The change came about as a way to promote the mod tools that came included when Afterbirth+ was released. The mod boosters are largely fan created, there may also be guest content from himself or special guest game programmers.

The first pack includes a new special card set, which when picked up will parody the game Magic: The Gathering Cards. There's also a new passive item called the Broken Modem, which causes enemies to freeze occasionally due to "ping" issues.

The next booster is going to be focused on new bosses, challenges and Angel Room items. McMillen is asking madders to create runs that "force the player to play the game differently than normal".

All mod packs are free of charge to owners of Afterbirth+, and are projected to be released around once per month. The Afterbirth+ DLC is available for £6.99 ($9.99 US).
