If you ask the PlayStation Portable’s homebrew community, the answer to that question is yes. It wouldn’t come as a shock to anyone if the PSP were to receive another redesign of some sort eventually, and hackers believe they have solid proof in hand.

Before the PSP Lite (or PSP 2000, if you like to tow the company line) was released, hackers came across a file named “pspbtcnf_02.bin.” After the PSP Lite’s release, the file was discovered to be instructions for the remodeled handheld.

With some digging, hackers have found a similar file – this time known as “pspbtcnf_03g.bin” – which would suggest that it’s a file simply awaiting a new PSP. The file can be found in the version 3.80 firmware and has the PSP homebrew crowd convinced that a PSP Liter, if you will, is definitely in development.

I wouldn’t place any bets based purely upon this information, because for all we know, it’s a Sony programmer screwing with us. But given the success that the PSP Lite has seen, another redesign down the road seems inevitable.
