UPDATE 07/11/12: Five new bonus mods added!
Although Dragon Age 2 is only two weeks old, the modding community has already pumped out enough mods for some fan favorites to emerge. Aesthetic mods, gameplay mods, and plain old “cheat” mods, here they are for your downloading pleasure:
1. Chargen Revamp
When creating a character in vanilla Dragon Age 2, you can either select the default model, lovingly crafted with personality and style, or you can look like crap. The customization options don’t allow you to create anything that looks even remotely close to the default model; so if you wanted, say, default Hawke with blue eyes and a shaved head, you’d have to settle for someone who looked like Dr. Evil.
Chargen Revamp allows you to customize default Hawke, an option that should have been included by the developers.
2. New Fair Skinned Isabela
If you prefer your pirate chicks to be the fair-skinned, indoorsy type rather than the swarthy, tanned variety, this mod is for you. It includes ten face variations to go with this fair-skinned Isabela, but no explanation as to how someone can sail the high seas under the sweltering sun and maintain the complexion of a basement-dwelling gamer. I guess a wizard did it.
Ever wish you could use the weapons and armor seen in Varric’s initial exaggerated tale without having to wait for the end-game? This mod makes it possible. You will need to use the experience cheat to level up and gain the prerequisite stats, but you’ll be able to wear any of the three armors, regardless of your class.
4. Gibbed Dragon Age Save Generator
The Dragon Age: Origins saved game import feature is a neat, but if you’ve never played DA:O–or deleted your saved game–then it’s a neat feature that you’ll never get to use. Want to know how a DA:O background will change your DA2 experience? This mod allows you to create a fully customizable saved game without having to play 30+ hours of DAO.
Keen observers of detail may have noticed that Bethany was far more buxom in Varric’s initial exaggerated tale than in the “real” story. This mod replaces Bethany’s normal body with Varric’s version, bumping her bosom size up to back pain-inducing levels.
This mod dramatically increases the vibrancy of the eyes of most characters in the game and adds a dozen eye shadow options for females, ranging from mundane black eyeliner to Blood Mage bleeding mascara, Cleopatra eyeliner, and full-face Geisha makeup.
7. No Restrictions DA2
Ever wonder why a warrior can’t use a bow? Seems fairly straightforward, doesn’t it? This mod removes all restrictions placed upon weapons and armor, be they attribute, class, or character restrictions. As a Two-Handed warrior, you may not find much use in a mage staff, but at least the option is there.
8. TrufflesDuval Texture Mod
Is Bioware’s 1-gigabyte high-resolution texture pack just not good enough for you? Or are you stuck with DirectX 9 and looking for a way to improve the game’s visuals? Mod-maker TrufflesDuval seeks to meet your needs with his texture pack. He’s presently working through the armor textures, but his current version has already enhanced the scenery.
9. AjuntaPall316s DA 2 Nudie Mods
The internet’s Rule 34 in action, this mod outfits the female champion with a see-through bra and underwear. It also makes the Desire Demon completely topless, rather than mostly topless, and includes an awkward topless Isabela–though topless may not be the right word. It seems more like her breasts have melted away the surrounding cloth, resulting in some bizarre x-ray voyeur bustier.
10. Unlock Companion Skill and Weapon Trees
Want a bow-wielding Isabela? Merrill with healing spells? Fenris with sword and shield? This mod unlocks all the possibilities by no longer forcing companions into the weapon roles that BioWare intended.
UPDATE 04/08/11: And here’s a bonus; five more top Dragon Age 2 mods:
If you’re not one of those people who regard Merrill as jailbait, then you might be interested in this re-skin that replaces this elf’s chainmail with… nothing. Not a nude mod per se, this mod just makes Merrill’s armor a lot less realistic. Versions with and without tattoos and shorts are available, as well as different color schemes.
The end-game Champion’s armor is by far the best look your character can sport, yet you spend a relatively short amount of time wearing the complete set. This mod gives you the full set of armor the moment you set foot in Kirkwall, but retains game balance by letting it level up in power along with you. Something about having a cake and eating it too comes to mind.
Yep, it’s basically a nude mod–a variety of revealing underwear options for female characters. You need to register for a free account at the Dragon Age Nexus to download it.
Isabela Pants and Shorts
What’s this? Do my eyes deceive me? A mod that actually addsclothing to female character? Sweet mother of mercy, there’s hope for humanity yet. I need to quote the mod author on this one:
I get it. Really I do. She’s a sexy saucy pirate wench. That doesn’t mean she needs to walk around flashing her thong at the whole world. Or maybe I just figured she was getting cold running around Darktown at night.
This mod does exactly what the name says–its gives Isabela pants.
New Sexy Busty Armor for Hawke
Aaaaaand we’re back. This mod outfits your female champion with what appears to be a re-skin of exaggerated Bethany’s body. The author did include a less busty version (pictured right), as well as versions with or sans tattoos.
This mod for female characters only adds a complete armor set for rogues and mages — robe, hood, boots, and gloves. The armor’s stats improve as you level up, so you get to keep the look as long as you like.
A version of the armor is also available for Merrill and Bethany, though it is purely cosmetic for them.
Pineappletree s Vibrant Hair for DA2
Here’s a mod that replaces the standard hair texture in DA2, which is used for all player characters and NPCs. The new textures are double the resolution of the originals and are based on images of real hair.
Pineappletree s Vibrant Colors for DA2
Another mod be Pineappletree, this one is a collection of 46 new skin tones, 42 new eye colors and 48 new stubble & eyebrow colors for use in the DA2 character creator.
Dream of Antiva
This mod adds some fancy Antivan-style armor that improves as you level up, and is also available for some of your companion characters.
Here’s a mod that replaces the armor meshes for certain NPCs and player characters with unrealistically sexy variants and allows for a fair degree of customization.
