Troy Baker confirms he isn't GTA 6's new protagonist, but wants real actor to get credit

Rockstar is famously tight-lipped about the cast of upcoming games, and Grand Theft Auto 6 is no exception, with fever-pitch speculation over the identities of the protagonists of the game ever since the first trailer dropped earlier this year.

One of these theories puts Troy Baker in the role of Jason, one of the apparent protagonists in the game. Baker is famous for his involvement in many video game projects, including The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite. There is a single line in the trailer that could sound a little bit like Baker, but it seems it isn't him, at least not according to an interview he recently gave with The Movie Dweeb.

Baker suggested that it isn't possible to conclude who the actor is from just a single line of dialogue. "He says one word!" he proclaimed, adding, "that right there is a lesson in perception. So, people think and they just automatically assume. I want that guy, whoever it is, to get credit for his work, because I'm sure it's going to be great."

"And I know many people who worked for Rockstar, Roger Clark, Ned Luke included, that, you know, that's a grind, man. Those guys pour themselves into those characters, and they deserve all of the credit for their work, not me."

Despite this, Baker added that he considered the theory "a compliment", adding that "If people just kind of associate – especially if they think it's good – and they associate me with it, that's a really good compliment."

While it puts the Troy Baker theory to bed, it doesn't get us any closer to discovering who the real actors are behind GTA 6's protagonists. One thing is for sure: we'll know by the time the game launches at some point in 2025.
